  • Assistive Technology: An Overview This module for the IRIS Center offers an overview of assistive technology (AT) with a focus on students with high-incidence disabilities such as learning disabilities and ADHD. It explores the consideration process, implementation, and evaluation of AT for these students (est. completion time: 2.5 hours).

  • FreedomTech offers Californians affordable financial loans to purchase needed assistive technology; loans range from $500-$15,000. Includes hearing aids, computers and adaptive accessories/software, adaptive driving equipment, home modification equipment for accessibility if you own your home (ramp, shower, grab bars).
  • Freespeech Free program to help non-verbal people and allows the use of a series of buttons to produce sentences to communicate easily; has 60 words slots that the users can modify.
  • HICAP (the Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program) provides free and objective information and counseling about Medicare and Medi-Cal assistance for AT resources with communication technology. Call 1-800-434-0222.

  • NATADS  (formerly AT Network Exchange) with Device Loan and Assistive Technology Reutilization programs.  Device Loan lets potential AT users try-out devices prior to purchase, have access to a backup system when their device is in for repairs and/or have access to a device while waiting for their device to be delivered.  The AT reutilization allows individuals the ability to view and/or post gently used Assistive Technology for sale, free or needed. This area also lets individuals view refurbished and repaired AT equipment.

  • Tech Toolbox™  is a place to find, share, rate and review technology for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD).  The site may be searched by type, goals, user needs, features and price.
  • Vocable ACC a free app which offers a helpful communication tool for individuals who are speech impaired that tracks head and eye movements.
