Special Education – How SMART Are Your Child’s IEP Goals?

At an IEP meeting, parents are often presented with suggested goals and objectives that will help each children reach his/her potential. Goals must be SMART in order for anyone to know if progress is occurring. SMART elements are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time Based. This presentation will discuss each of the five elements, why they are important and how to identify them. If a goal is not being reached, what are alternative goals that may be used based on the child’s needs?
